Job Description

Montreal West Island CIUSSS is currently looking for nurses to fill vacancies in the Emergency Department at general Lakeshore Hospital.

Nurses working in the Emergency Department have the expertise to act competently in a multitude of emergency situations. More specifically, the nurse develops professional judgment to be able to prioritize and quickly assess the condition and progress of a user presenting to the emergency department.

  • Ten (10) days of theoretical training followed by twenty (20) to thirty (30) days of orientation with a nurse are provided upon hiring;
  • You can also benefit from three (3) days' training to work in the resuscitation room after six (6) to twelve (12) months' experience.

You will have access to various emergency-specific training courses:

  • Advanced cardiac life support;
  • Advanced pediatric life support;
  • Pediatric emergency nursing care;
  • Non-violent crisis intervention;
  • Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale;
  • Foundations and Pediatrics (EPICC);
  • Basic trauma course.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Rapidly assess the condition and progress of a patient presenting to the emergency department;
  • Evaluate the patient's condition and determine the priority level of care according to a predetermined classification;
  • Periodically and systematically reassess patients awaiting medical management;
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate education for users, their families and groups;
  • Redirect patients to optimal resources;
  • Work closely with physicians and the multidisciplinary team.

Requirements :

The person we are looking for must:

  • Hold a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a diploma deemed equivalent by the competent authorities;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ);
  • Ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with both French- and English-speaking clients;
  • Expreience in an emergency unit will be considered an asset.
